Heart Shaped Pancakes - Great for Valentines, Pancake day or Mother's Day!

  • 135g/4¾oz plain flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp caster suger

  • 130ml/4½fl oz milk

  • 1 large egg lightly beaten

  • 2 tbsp melted butter (allowed to cool slightly) or oil/ plus extra for cooking or oil spray.

Combine together the dry ingredients in a big bowl. Then mix up the wet ingredients in another bowl, then add to the dry ingredients. Stir up the ingredients until everything is well moistened, but the batter may be a bit on the lumpy side, which is totally fine.

Heat up a griddle or pan and brush a bit of oil on it or use some cooking spray. You can use cookie cutters to shape your batter or you may want to just use some of the batter and then shape it into a heart yourself. Cook the pancakes until you start seeing bubbles on top and they start to break. Then turn them and cook for another minute or two on the other side. Take the pancakes out and sprinkle them with icing sugar while they are warm. You may want to add some chocolate chips or some blueberries to the batter for a tasty twist on the heart shaped pancakes. You can add any fruit or maybe some natural yogurt for an even tastier healthy option or chocolate sauce or maple syrup for a real treat.
